Product Description

The SECO 02960404 is a TCMT-style triangular turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning operations. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr multilayer Duratomic coating, this insert delivers consistent performance in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron applications. It carries manufacturer grade TP2501 and features an F1 chip breaker geometry with a sharp cutting edge style and a positive rake angle. The insert has a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315 inch corner radius, and an insert thickness of 0.0937 inches. Three cutting edges are available per insert, making it a multi-tipped, multi-use tool suitable for turning, facing, boring, and back turning.

This insert is suited for use in production and job-shop environments where steel and stainless steel workpieces are common. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 indicate strong suitability for a range of steel types, with secondary coverage for stainless steel and cast iron. Its screw-holding method and TCMT pocket geometry make it compatible with standard TCMT toolholders. The F1 chip breaker is optimized for light to medium depths of cut, making it a practical choice for general turning and finishing passes where controlled chip evacuation matters.

Key Features

  • CVD Duratomic multilayer coating (TiCN, Al2O3, Cr) for extended tool life in steel and stainless applications
  • F1 chip breaker geometry with positive rake and sharp cutting edge for clean chip control
  • Three usable cutting edges per insert for efficient cost-per-edge value
  • Suitable for back turning, boring, facing, and turning operations
  • Screw-clamped TCMT pocket holding method for secure, repeatable seating
  • Meets ANSI and ISO standards; ISO code TCMT110208-F1

Compatibility

Designed for use in standard TCMT-style screw-on toolholders. Compatible with workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), and K (cast iron). Maximum depth of cut is 0.3543 inches. Verify toolholder pocket geometry matches TCMT insert style before installation.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians using standard torx or hex key drivers appropriate for the toolholder clamp screw. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and verify the clamp screw is tightened to the toolholder specification before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut for this insert geometry.
