The SECO 02960403 is a TCMT-style triangular turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Running grade TP1501 with a Duratomic CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of ferrous workpiece materials. The F1 chip breaker geometry produces a sharp cutting edge with a positive rake angle and a 1/32 inch corner radius, supporting controlled chip flow during steel and cast iron operations. With 3 usable cutting edges per insert and screw-type holding, it suits production environments where consistent tool life and repeatable results matter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production facilities are the primary users.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations including back turning, boring, facing, and straight turning on steel, cast iron, and hard materials. The TP1501 grade targets ISO material groups P (steel) and K (cast iron), with secondary capability in hard materials (H). The TCMT geometry and F1 chip breaker combination handles light-to-moderate depths of cut, making it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes on CNC lathes in both job shop and production environments. Compatible toolholders use TCMT-style screw-clamp pockets with the corresponding insert pocket geometry.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct-fit insert for TCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a triangular insert with a 1/4 inch inscribed circle. Primary workpiece material is steel (P10, P20); secondary materials are cast iron and hard materials per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tool crib technicians using the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or damage before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for the insert grade and chip breaker selected.
