The SECO 02960401 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT series, designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The insert is coated with a TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr multilayer stack applied via CVD under SECO's Duratomic coating classification, producing a wear-resistant surface suited to steel and cast iron cutting. Neutral hand orientation and a positive rake geometry allow use across back turning, boring, facing, and straight turning operations. The F1 chip breaker is configured for sharp-edge cutting and is aimed at machinist and toolroom applications requiring consistent chip control.
This insert is intended for use on ferrous workpiece materials, with a primary designation for steel (ISO P) and secondary suitability for cast iron and hard materials (ISO K and H). It fits TCMT-style toolholders using screw clamping and is appropriate for light-to-medium roughing and finishing passes. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.3937 inches, it covers a broad range of common turning scenarios in production and job-shop environments. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Do not overtighten the clamping screw beyond the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the new cutting edge for chips or coating damage before returning the machine to service.
