The SECO 02960395 is a square-shaped solid carbide turning insert in the SCMT-F1 series, designed for high-productivity metal cutting in turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries the industry standard designation SCMT32.51-F1 and is manufactured to the TP2501 grade using a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. This coating improves wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0157-inch corner radius, a positive rake geometry, and a sharp F1 chip breaker style. The neutral hand orientation and 4 cutting edges per insert make it a cost-effective option for production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers and users.
This insert is intended for use in CNC lathes and machining centers performing external and internal turning, facing, and boring passes. Its primary workpiece material is steel, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and K. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered. The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium depths of cut with a maximum depth of cut of 0.3583 inches. It is held in the toolholder by a screw-clamping method and conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards.
Designed for use in SCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. ISO insert code SCMT09T304-F1 applies for international toolholder compatibility lookup. Suitable for steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials at P10 through P35 material grades.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians using a standard torx or hex key to seat the insert via the screw-clamping method. Always index or replace the insert with the machine at a full stop and all motion axes locked. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new edge. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for the selected chip breaker geometry.
