The SECO 02960088 is a WNMG332-M3 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It carries manufacturer grade TP1501 and is designed for negative-rake, neutral-hand turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert features an 80-degree trigon shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and an M3 chip breaker geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge. Six cutting edges are available per insert, maximizing tool life per unit. Licensed HVAC techs, plumbers, electricians, and pool pros are not the audience here — this insert is installed by CNC machinists and tool-room technicians on lathes and turning centers targeting steel and cast iron workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for medium to semi-finish turning of steel (ISO P10-P20 material grades), with secondary application in cast iron and hard materials. Multi-use capability covers turning, facing, and boring operations in both roughing and finishing contexts where the M3 chip breaker geometry helps manage chip flow. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO dimensional standards, carries ISO code WNMG060408-M3, and is held in the tool body by clamp, pin, or lever-lock methods. It is appropriate for use in production CNC environments as well as manual turning applications where consistent insert geometry is required.
Designed for use in WNMG-style negative-rake toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle trigon insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Primary workpiece material is steel (P10-P20); secondary materials include cast iron and hard materials.
Insert seating and indexing should be performed with the machine fully stopped and all axes locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamp or lever-lock — do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Proper edge orientation must be confirmed before resuming any cutting operation.
