The SECO 02960085 is a WNMG331-M3 series indexable turning insert designed for metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a solid carbide substrate with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, providing thermal resistance and wear life across a wide range of cutting conditions. The insert carries a TP1501 manufacturer grade and an M3 chip breaker geometry optimized for medium-range depths of cut. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and six usable cutting edges per insert, this is a high-utilization tool suited for production turning, facing, and boring operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This insert is rated primarily for steel workpieces (ISO material code P, grades P10 and P20) and secondarily for cast iron and hard materials (ISO codes K and H). Typical applications include external and internal turning, facing, and boring on production lathes. The negative rake, neutral-hand geometry and WNMG 80-degree trigon shape make it a versatile choice for both roughing and semi-finishing passes within its rated depth-of-cut range. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries ISO code WNMG060404-M3.
Designed for use in WNMG-style insert pockets on turning and boring tool holders that accept clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for WNMG331 geometry inserts. Industry standard number WNMG331-M3, ISO code WNMG060404-M3.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping element to avoid micro-movement under cutting loads. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for wear or damage each time the insert is indexed.
