The SECO 02960078 is a TNMG331-MF2 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Designated grade TP1501, this insert is engineered for steel machining applications and carries P10 and P20 material grade ratings. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0157 inches), and an MF2 chip breaker geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge. With 6 cutting edges available per insert, it suits high-volume turning environments where tool economy and consistent chip control are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production facilities are the primary users.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations including facing, boring, and back turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. The MF2 chip breaker geometry targets finishing and medium-roughing passes on steel, with secondary capability on cast iron and hard materials. It is held via clamp, pin, or lever lock toolholding systems and is appropriate for both job-shop variety work and dedicated production runs. Designed for use in TNMG-style indexable toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with a 0.1500-inch hole diameter and clamp, pin, or lever lock retention. Compatible toolholder selection should reference the TNMG insert style designation and clearance code N.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and all axes at a safe position before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque driver or clamp screw tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert — do not overtighten by hand or with non-specified tools. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
