The SECO 02960041 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG-FF2 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the industry standard number VNMG331-FF2 and the ISO designation VNMG160404-FF2. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle and a relief angle of 0 degrees. Applied via CVD process, the Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — delivers wear resistance and thermal stability on steel and cast iron workpieces. Four available cutting edges make it a cost-effective choice for production turning environments.
This insert is suited for external turning operations on steel (ISO material code P), cast iron (K), and hard materials (H), corresponding to material grades P10 and P20. Typical applications include back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning. The FF2 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and semi-finishing cuts. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.6142 inches and an insert length of 1.307 inches, it handles a broad range of cut depths in both light and moderate material removal passes. It is held in place using clamp, pin, or lever lock toolholding systems.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.15-inch hole diameter, using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for VNMG insert seats.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp, pin, or lever lock mechanism — a rocking insert will cause premature edge failure. Verify toolholder and insert combination compliance with the machine manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters before initiating a cut.
