The SECO 02960014 is a CNMG431-FF2 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Carrying grade designation TP2501, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, negative rake geometry, and a neutral hand orientation. The cutting edge is honed and the FF2 chip breaker geometry is designed to control chip flow across a range of depths and feed rates. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers extended tool life in production turning environments. Licensed HVAC techs and trade machinists running CNC lathes or manual turning centers will recognize this as a standard CNMG platform insert built to ANSI and ISO dimensional standards.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations including boring, facing, and straight turning. The TP2501 grade with Duratomic coating is optimized for steel as the primary workpiece material, covering ISO material groups P10, P20, P30, and P35. Secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel and cast iron, corresponding to ISO groups M and K. It is appropriate for medium to finishing cuts in job shop and production environments where consistent chip control and surface finish are required.
Designed for toolholders accepting CNMG-style inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and 3/16 inch thickness. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock systems. Industry standard number CNMG431-FF2 and ISO code CNMG120404-FF2 apply for cross-referencing to equivalent toolholder specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tool setters following standard indexable insert procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screw when seating the insert to avoid micro-fracture at the cutting edge. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before each index.
