The SECO 02960013 is a CNMG-series indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TP2501 grade designation and features a CVD-applied Duratomic coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering wear resistance across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape, a negative rake geometry, a neutral hand orientation, and an FF2 chip breaker profile suited for finishing and light roughing passes on steel. With four usable cutting edges, the 02960013 delivers strong cost-per-edge value for production turning operations.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel workpieces (ISO material code P, grades P10 through P35) and is also suitable for stainless steel (code M) and cast iron (code K). Typical applications include boring, facing, and turning on both manual and CNC turning equipment. The FF2 chip breaker geometry handles chip control during moderate-depth passes, making this insert a practical choice for job shops and production floors running mixed steel and stainless work.
Designed for use in CNMG-style insert pockets accepting 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, 80-degree diamond inserts with a 0-degree relief angle and M-tolerance fit. ISO equivalent designation is CNMG120402-FF2. Verify toolholder pocket specification before installation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and confirm the clamping mechanism (clamp, pin, or lever lock as applicable to the toolholder) is fully engaged before resuming cuts. Do not use damaged or chipped edges, as compromised inserts can affect surface finish and create safety hazards.
