The SECO 02960004 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. It carries the WNMG332W-M3 industry standard designation and the TP2501 manufacturer grade, featuring a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life and thermal resistance. The insert has an 80-degree trigon shape with a negative rake angle, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315 inch corner radius. Six cutting edges are available per insert, and the chamfered and honed cutting edge style supports consistent chip control across a range of material grades. The M3 chip breaker geometry is engineered for medium-range depths of cut.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Material grade classifications P10, P20, P30, and P35 indicate compatibility with a broad range of steel hardness levels. It is commonly used in production turning environments where multi-use capability across those three material families reduces the need for frequent insert changeovers. The insert is held via clamp, pin, or lever-lock systems, making it compatible with standard WNMG toolholders used in both OEM and aftermarket setups. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the corresponding ISO designation WNMG060408W-M3.
Designed as a direct fit for standard WNMG toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 3/16 inch thickness and 0.15 inch hole diameter. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die technicians using the appropriate torque wrench for the clamp or lever-lock screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Always index or replace the insert with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or contamination before seating a new cutting edge. Dispose of worn carbide inserts in accordance with applicable shop waste regulations for carbide materials.
