The SECO 02959990 is a CNMG432W-M3 indexable turning insert designed for steel, stainless steel, and cast iron machining on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — classified under manufacturer grade TP2501 for P10 through P35 material grades. The insert geometry is negative rake with a neutral hand, an 80-degree diamond shape, and an M3 chip breaker optimized for medium-duty cutting. The cutting edge is chamfered and honed for improved edge stability. Four usable cutting edges make this a multi-tipped insert suited for high-production environments where cost-per-edge matters.
This insert is rated for boring, facing, and turning operations and targets steel as its primary workpiece material, with stainless steel and cast iron as secondary applications. The M3 chip breaker geometry handles a broad chip-load range, making it practical across roughing-to-finishing transitions in job shop and production floor settings. Compatible insert holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock toolholders in the CNMG series. The ISO equivalent designation is CNMG120408W-M3, and the industry standard number is CNMG432W-M3. Designed for use in CNMG-series toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary materials are stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered by the TP2501 grade designation.
Insert changes must be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder style — clamp, pin, or lever lock — to ensure proper seating. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Follow shop safety protocols and machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures before any toolholder service.
