The SECO 02959989 is a CNMG432W-M3 series turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It features an 80-degree diamond shape, neutral hand orientation, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style with an M3 chip breaker. The insert has a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and delivers four usable cutting edges per insert. It is designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations where consistent chip control and extended tool life in steel applications are required. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for light to medium roughing and semi-finishing passes on steel, cast iron, and hard materials. The M3 chip breaker geometry manages chip formation across a range of depths of cut up to 0.4764 inches. It is appropriate for both horizontal and vertical turning centers in production and job-shop environments. Its negative rake geometry and wiper edge make it well-suited for facing passes that require a consistent surface finish. The multi-use design supports boring, facing, and turning in a single insert grade.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding systems conforming to ANSI and ISO CNMG120408 standards. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary applications include cast iron (ISO K) and hard materials (ISO H).
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of debris before installing the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as this can cause unpredictable tool failure during operation.
