The SECO 02959988 is a CNMG432W-M3 series solid carbide turning insert with a TP0501 Duratomic CVD coating system consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake geometry. The insert measures 0.5079 inches in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. The M3 chip breaker geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge is engineered for controlled chip formation during medium-duty turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders for general turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert is suited for turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. It is classified under ISO material group P (steel) as primary and K (cast iron) as secondary. The CNMG432W-M3 geometry supports boring, facing, and turning, making it a multi-use insert for CNC lathes and turning centers. The Duratomic CVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear performance during continuous and interrupted cuts on ferrous materials at P01 and P10 material grades.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for CNMG-series toolholders accepting CNMG432 (ISO: CNMG120408) geometry inserts with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO group P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO group K).
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tool-crib technicians using the appropriate CNMG-series toolholder with a compatible clamping system. Power down the machine and engage all axis locks before indexing or replacing inserts. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge. Verify seat and clamp condition before torquing to the toolholder manufacturer's specification.
