The SECO 02959986 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG-M3 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards, it carries the industry designation TNMG433-M3 and ISO code TNMG220412-M3. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to resist wear and thermal breakdown during continuous and interrupted cuts. With six available cutting edges, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0472-inch corner radius, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, it delivers consistent performance on steel and cast iron. Grade TP1501 targets P10 and P20 material grades.
This insert is used in high-production turning, facing, boring, and back-turning operations on ferrous workpieces. Its primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P), with secondary suitability for cast iron and hard materials (ISO codes K and H). The neutral hand orientation and negative rake geometry make it well suited to external and internal turning applications on both light and medium-duty cuts. It is a multi-use insert appropriate for job shop and production environments where a single insert geometry must cover several operations.
Designed for TNMG-style toolholders that accept a triangular insert with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, N clearance code, and M tolerance code. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding systems. Verify toolholder designation against the TNMG433 insert size code before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct torque driver or clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for chips or wear before seating a new edge.
