The SECO 02959985 is a triangular solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG-M3 series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. Carrying the TP2501 Duratomic grade designation, this insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr that provides thermal resistance and extended edge life. The negative rake geometry and M3 chip breaker geometry deliver controlled chip formation across a wide range of cutting parameters. With 6 usable cutting edges per insert, it offers a strong cost-per-edge value for high-volume turning environments. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers specify this insert for demanding continuous and interrupted steel cutting applications.
The SECO 02959985 is suited for back turning, boring, facing, and turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. It targets ISO material groups P, M, and K, with material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 covering a broad spectrum of steel hardness and alloy content. The M3 chip breaker geometry is engineered for medium-duty cutting where consistent chip control and edge stability are required. This insert is particularly effective in production environments where multiple setups share a common toolholder platform.
Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders that accept a triangular insert with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, N clearance, and M tolerance. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods. Suitable for applications targeting ISO P, M, and K workpiece material groups.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel following standard insert indexing procedures. Power down and de-energize the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and seating screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert; do not hand-tighten only. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before mounting to ensure proper seating and avoid premature edge failure.
