The SECO 02959970 is a round carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI/ISO industry standard designation RNMG43-M3 and manufactured to grade TP2501. The insert features a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, a full radius round shape with an included angle of 360 degrees, and a negative rake geometry with a clearance code of N. It is coated via a CVD process with a multilayer Duratomic coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers, providing wear resistance and thermal protection. Eight available cutting edges and an M3 chip breaker geometry make this insert efficient for high-productivity turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working on lathes and turning centers are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for facing, profiling, and general turning applications in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. Its primary target workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P), with secondary compatibility covering stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K). Recommended material grades are P10, P20, P30, and P35. The M3 chip breaker geometry handles moderate chip loads effectively across these material groups. The full radius shape allows continuous contact and smooth entry, making it well suited to profiling passes where consistent corner geometry is required. Typical machine environments include production lathes and CNC turning centers in industrial machining shops.
Designed for use in RNMG-series toolholders that accept a 1/2 inch inscribed circle round insert with a 0.2028 inch hole diameter and clamp, pin, or lever lock holding. Compatible with ISO code RNMG120400-M3 and ANSI industry standard number RNMG43-M3 toolholder seats.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the toolholder must be secured in a locked turret or tool block before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and fastener specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the clamping screw or lever lock mechanism. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new cutting edge.
