The SECO 02959963 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG-M3 series, designed for general turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the industry-standard designation VNMG332-M3 and ISO code VNMG160408-M3, featuring a 35-degree diamond shape (V shape code) with a negative rake and neutral hand orientation. The insert is CVD-coated using SECO Duratomic technology with a TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr multilayer coating system, classified as manufacturer grade TP2501. Four cutting edges are available per insert. The M3 chip breaker geometry features a chamfered and honed cutting edge style suited to moderate depths of cut.
This insert is intended for use in steel (ISO P) as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 apply. Typical applications include back turning, facing, profiling, and general longitudinal turning. The insert seats via clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods, making it compatible with a wide range of standard VNMG toolholders used in production and job-shop environments. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO insert standards.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a de-energized, locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before tightening the clamping mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for wear or debris before seating a new edge. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for the selected toolholder and insert combination.
