The SECO 02959937 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG-M3 series, designed for high-productivity turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the DNMG431-M3 industry standard designation and is manufactured to ANSI and ISO tolerances. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — that delivers thermal resistance and wear life across a wide range of cutting conditions. With a 55-degree diamond shape, four usable cutting edges, and a chamfered and honed edge preparation, this insert is built for reliable metal removal in steel and related materials. The M3 chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during medium-depth turning passes.
This insert is suited for medium-duty turning applications on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and K. Recommended material grades are P10, P20, P30, and P35, making it appropriate for a range of steel hardness and machinability conditions. Typical operations include turning, facing, boring, and back turning on production CNC equipment. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible mounting in standard toolholders that accept DNMG-style inserts with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods.
Designed for use in DNMG-style toolholders that accept inserts with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, N clearance code, and M tolerance code. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods. ISO equivalent designation is DNMG150404-M3.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp, pin, or lever lock mechanism — an improperly seated insert can fracture under cutting load. Inspect the insert pocket and toolholder bore for chips or debris before seating a new edge.
