The SECO 02959928 is a solid carbide indexable turning insert in the WNMG332-M3 geometry, carrying the TP2501 Duratomic grade designation. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. It has an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 0 degree relief angle (clearance code N, tolerance code M). The corner radius measures 0.0315 inches and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.375 inches. Six cutting edges are available per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost in production environments. The M3 chip breaker geometry is chamfered and honed along the cutting edge.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel workpieces (ISO P, material grades P10, P20, P30, P35) and is also suitable for secondary applications on stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Approved multi-use applications include turning, facing, and boring. The insert conforms to ANSI and ISO standards, with an ISO code of WNMG060408-M3 and an industry standard number of WNMG332-M3. It is suited for CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments where medium to heavy stock removal on ferrous materials is required.
Designed for use in WNMG-style indexable turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock insert retention. Primary workpiece material is steel; secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel and cast iron.
Indexable carbide inserts are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw — do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping components for wear or damage before indexing to a fresh cutting edge.
