The SECO 02959923 is a CNMG643-M3 series indexable turning insert designed for medium-duty machining of steel, cast iron, and hard materials. It carries the TP1501 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to extend tool life under continuous and interrupted cutting conditions. The insert geometry is negative rake with a neutral hand orientation, an 80-degree diamond shape, and an M3 chipbreaker with a chamfered and honed cutting edge. With four usable cutting edges and a 3/64-inch corner radius, this insert suits high-productivity roughing and semi-finishing passes where consistent chip control and thermal resistance are critical.
This insert is rated for boring, facing, and turning operations. The primary target workpiece material is steel (ISO code P), with secondary suitability for cast iron (K) and hard materials (H). Corresponding ISO material grades are P10 and P20, making it well-matched for general steel turning in both production-floor and job-shop environments. The CNMG-M3 series is commonly used in rigid CNC lathes and turning centers where clamp, pin, or lever-lock toolholders accept standard CNMG geometry inserts. Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician during toolholder setup on a CNC lathe or turning center. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new edge.
