The SECO 02959922 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for metal removal on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade with a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — applied to a solid carbide substrate for wear resistance and thermal stability at high cutting speeds. The insert features an M3 chip breaker geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, a 0.0472 inch corner radius, and a negative rake angle. Four cutting edges are available per insert, making it a multi-tipped, multi-use tool suited for boring, facing, and turning operations.
This insert is intended for use in production turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. It targets steel workpieces (ISO material code P, grades P10 through P35) as its primary application, with secondary suitability for stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K). The M3 chip breaker is optimized for medium-depth, medium-feed cutting conditions. It is installed by licensed machinists and tooling technicians in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments.
Designed for use in CNMG-style insert toolholders that accept a 5/8 inch inscribed circle, 1/4 inch thick insert with a 0.250 inch hole diameter and N clearance, M tolerance designation. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding systems. Suitable for boring, facing, and turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians following standard indexable insert change procedures. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the toolholder secured before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and contact surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new cutting edge.
