The SECO 02959921 is a CNMG543-M3 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Carrying manufacturer grade TP1501, it features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a negative rake angle and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. The inscribed circle measures 0.625 inches, insert length is 0.6339 inches, insert thickness is 0.250 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0472 inches. With 4 cutting edges and an M3 chip breaker geometry, this insert is suited for steel and cast iron machining across medium to roughing cut ranges.
This insert is designed for multi-use CNC lathe and machining center operations including turning, facing, and boring. Its primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P), with secondary suitability for cast iron (K) and hard materials (H). Material grades P10 and P20 position it for general-purpose to moderate-feed steel cutting. The M3 chip breaker geometry handles a range of depths of cut up to 0.5866 inches, making it a practical choice for production turning environments where insert versatility reduces tooling inventory.
Designed for use in CNMG-style insert toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick insert with a 0.250-inch hole diameter. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock systems. Industry standard designation CNMG543-M3 and ISO code CNMG160612-M3 apply. Meets ANSI and ISO standards for insert geometry interchangeability.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before indexing or replacing inserts. Verify the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping guidelines for the specific holding method in use.
