The SECO 02959870 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG-M6 series, designed for high-productivity metal cutting in CNC turning applications. It carries the TP1501 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life against wear and heat. The insert measures 0.685 inches in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. With 6 cutting edges and an M6 chip breaker geometry, it delivers efficient chip control across a range of material types. The cutting edge is honed with a negative rake and neutral hand orientation.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations, with steel as the primary workpiece material and cast iron and hard materials as secondary applications. Material grades P10 and P20 make it appropriate for general and semi-finish turning of steel components. It is held using clamp, pin, or lever lock methods, making it compatible with a wide range of standard WNMG toolholders. The M6 chip breaker geometry handles moderate depths of cut up to 0.3307 inches and performs across both roughing and finishing passes in the P and K material categories.
Designed for use in standard WNMG-style toolholders that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 80-degree trigon insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock retention. Suitable for steel, cast iron, and hard material workpieces per P10, P20, K, and H material grade classifications.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specifications when securing the clamping screw or lever lock mechanism.
