The SECO 02959847 is a CNMG432-M6 indexable turning insert in the Seco Duratomic TP1501 grade, designed for high-productivity metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. This multi-tipped carbide insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (C insert shape code), a neutral hand orientation, and a 1/2-inch inscribed circle with a 1/32-inch corner radius. The CVD-applied Duratomic coating stack — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — delivers thermal resistance and wear life across a wide range of cutting conditions. With four usable cutting edges per insert, this geometry supports boring, facing, and turning operations.
This insert is suited to general and semi-finish turning of steel and cast iron in both residential shop and production floor environments. The M6 chip breaker geometry controls chip formation across moderate depths of cut up to 0.4764 inches, making it appropriate for medium-duty passes on steel workpieces classified under ISO P10 and P20 material grades. Secondary workpiece materials include cast iron and hard materials. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and all axes at a safe position. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat and chip pocket for debris before seating each new cutting edge. Confirm insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder before resuming cuts.
