The SECO 02959838 is a WNMG331-MF2 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Carrying the TP2501 grade designation, it is engineered for medium to general-purpose turning operations on steel and stainless steel. The insert features an 80-degree trigon shape with a neutral hand orientation and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With 6 available cutting edges per insert, it delivers a low cost-per-edge for high-volume machining environments. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 10 pieces.
This insert is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes in job-shop, production, and contract-machining environments. Its MF2 chip breaker geometry is designed for medium-finish turning passes on steel workpieces, with secondary capability on stainless steel and cast iron. Typical applications include boring, facing, and turning operations where consistent chip control and edge security are required. It is compatible with standard WNMG-style insert pockets and toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods.
Designed for use in WNMG-style insert pockets accepting an 80-degree trigon insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and 0.15-inch hole diameter. Compatible with toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock insert retention. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary materials include stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Suitable for P10, P20, P30, and P35 material grade applications.
Installation is performed by machining technicians or CNC setup personnel. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured. Use the correct torque tool or clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
