The SECO 02959837 is a multi-tipped triangular carbide turning insert in the TNMG-MF2 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the TP2501 grade designation and features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered for thermal stability and extended tool life in interrupted and continuous cutting. The triangular geometry provides six usable cutting edges per insert, reducing per-edge cost. A 0.0315-inch corner radius and chamfered and honed cutting edge preparation support stable chip formation and consistent surface finish on a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for back turning, boring, facing, and general turning operations across steel and stainless steel workpieces, with secondary capability on cast iron. The MF2 chip breaker geometry targets finishing to medium finishing cuts, making it appropriate for applications requiring tight dimensional tolerances. It fits standard TNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. The neutral hand orientation works with both right-hand and left-hand toolholder setups. Primary workpiece material code is P (steel), with M (stainless steel) and K (cast iron) as secondary applications per ISO classification.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TNMG432-MF2 style inserts (ISO code TNMG220408-MF2) in standard TNMG-series toolholders accepting clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding. Suitable for CNC turning applications targeting material grades P10 through P35 steel, stainless steel, and cast iron.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Before seating the insert, inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping components for debris, wear, or damage that could affect insert seating and stability. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or tool post is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the specific clamping style in use; do not over-torque lever-lock or pin-style clamps, as this can fracture the insert body.
