The SECO 02959834 is a triangular solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG332-MF2 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the TP2501 grade designation with a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The insert has a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315 inch corner radius, a 3/16 inch thickness, and six usable cutting edges. Negative rake geometry and a chamfered and honed edge prep make it well-suited for moderate to heavy roughing and finishing passes. Machinists and CNC programmers specify this insert for steel and stainless steel turning operations.
This insert is intended for general turning applications including back turning, boring, facing, and turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its primary workpiece material is steel, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. The MF2 chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control at medium feed rates on both roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is used in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments where consistent tool life and surface finish on ferrous materials are required. Holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock toolholders.
Designed for use with TNMG-style toolholders accepting clamp, pin, or lever lock insert retention. Fits standard TNMG 332 pocket geometry. ISO equivalent insert designation is TNMG160408-MF2. Suitable for material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 workpieces per ISO classification. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Confirm the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips before clamping — debris under the insert seat affects runout and can fracture the carbide. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque for the retention method in use.
