The SECO 02959831 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG-MF2 series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade with a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features a 90-degree square shape with a negative rake angle, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315 inch corner radius. The MF2 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style support controlled chip formation during medium to light turning passes. Eight cutting edges per insert make this a cost-effective option for high-volume production environments.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. It falls within material grade classifications P10, P20, P30, and P35, making it most at home in continuous to lightly interrupted cuts on low-to-medium alloy steels and austenitic stainless. Typical install scenarios include production turning on CNC lathes where clamp, pin, or lever-lock toolholders accept SNMG-style inserts. The insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 10 units per transaction.

Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — no torque value is specified for this insert alone. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before securing the insert to ensure proper contact and edge alignment.
