The SECO 02959803 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG-MF2 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TP1501 grade designation with a Duratomic CVD coating process applying TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers for extended tool life in steel and cast iron applications. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch (0.0157 inch) corner radius. Four cutting edges per insert and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style make this a cost-effective choice for high-production turning environments. The MF2 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during finishing and light roughing passes.
This insert is suited for external turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. The TP1501 grade targets primary workpiece material code P (steel, P10-P20) and secondary codes K (cast iron) and H (hard materials). It is installed in negative-rake toolholders that accept DNMG-style inserts with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing operations on CNC machining centers, and general-purpose lathe work in job shop and production environments. The ISO code for this insert is DNMG150404-MF2.
Designed for use in negative-rake DNMG-style toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch inscribed circle insert with a tolerance code M and clearance code N. Compatible with ANSI and ISO standard DNMG toolholder systems. Industry standard number DNMG431-MF2; ISO code DNMG150404-MF2.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener for the toolholder clamping system to avoid insert cracking or seat damage. Inspect the insert pocket and seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert edge.
