The SECO 02959799 is a CNMG431-MF2 indexable turning insert designed for precision metal removal in general turning, facing, and boring operations. Built from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a Duratomic multilayer system of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, the insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across demanding cutting conditions. The 80-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry, and the MF2 chip breaker with chamfered and honed cutting edge style controls chip flow on light to medium passes. Four usable cutting edges per insert extend tool life between changeovers. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and tool setters on lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments.
The 02959799 is engineered for primary use on steel workpieces (ISO material group P, grades P01 and P10) and is also rated for cast iron (ISO group K). The MF2 chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and light roughing passes where chip control and surface finish are priorities. Multi-use capability covers turning, facing, and boring operations in a single insert style, reducing the number of insert grades a shop needs to stock for these material groups. The negative rake and neutral hand orientation make it compatible with standard CNMG-style toolholders.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tool setter. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified seating hardware for the toolholder style (clamp, pin, or lever lock) to ensure the insert is fully seated against the pocket walls. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.4921 inches, and verify chip breaker orientation matches the intended operation before starting the cut.
