The SECO 02956326 is a VBMT-series indexable turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V-style), a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and an MF2 chipbreaker geometry. Cutting edges are chamfered and honed. Each insert provides two cutting edges and is held in place via screw-clamping toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install these inserts in production turning applications across job shops and manufacturing facilities.
The 02956326 is engineered primarily for steel (ISO material code P) with secondary suitability for stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K), covering material grades P10 through P35. Its MF2 chipbreaker geometry supports back turning, facing, profiling, and general longitudinal turning. The positive rake geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge reduce cutting forces and improve chip control on medium-to-light depths of cut. The insert meets ANSI and ISO standards and carries ISO designation VBMT160408-MF2. Maximum depth of cut is 0.5748 inches. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for VBMT screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO VBMT160408 seating specifications. Primary workpiece material is steel; secondary materials are stainless steel and cast iron.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
