The SECO 02956303 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade with a multi-layer CVD Duratomic coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — that provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a 7-degree relief angle. The MF2 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge work together to control chips and protect the edge during finishing and semi-finishing passes. Two cutting edges are available per insert.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations on steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. It fits residential and industrial machine shops alike, as well as production environments where consistent dimensional tolerances are required. The neutral hand orientation and screw-holding method make it compatible with standard CCMT-style toolholders. The positive rake geometry helps reduce cutting forces, which is especially useful when working with harder grades of steel or thin-walled parts where deflection is a concern. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders. Compatible with boring, facing, and turning applications on steel (P10-P35), stainless steel (M-grade), and cast iron (K-grade) workpieces. ISO code CCMT060204-MF2 and industry standard number CCMT21.51-MF2 can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians using the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw for the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamp screw for wear before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.2362 inches as specified for this insert geometry.
