The SECO 02949690 is a solid carbide, double-sided trigon milling insert carrying SECO grade MK2050 with a dual-layer PVD coating of TiSiN and TiAlN. The insert follows ANSI and ISO designation 218.21-230TR-06-MD17 and is engineered for high-performance face and shoulder milling in cast iron, steel, and hard materials. It delivers six usable cutting edges per insert with a negative rake geometry and T-Land cutting edge style. The MD17 chip breaker controls chip flow in medium-grain carbide substrate applications. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers of this tooling component.
This insert is designed for use in milling operations targeting cast iron as the primary workpiece material, with secondary application in steel and hard materials. The 218.21-230 series designation places it in SECO cutter series R220.21 and R230 milling platforms. It is suited for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where a 0.5000 inch inscribed circle insert is appropriate. The right-hand orientation and negative rake angle make it a standard choice for conventional milling setups on CNC machining centers handling ferrous and hardened workpieces.
Designed for use with SECO cutter series R220.21 and R230 milling platforms, as specified by the 218.21-230 series designation. Verify toolholder compatibility against SECO cutter documentation before installation.
Insert seating and torque of the clamping screw should follow the toolholder manufacturer specifications for the R220.21 or R230 cutter body. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket seat for debris or damage before seating the new insert. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body — do not use substitute drivers that may damage the screw head or insert.
