The SECO 02902989 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the manufacturer grade CP500, this insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating for wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The cutting width is 1.2 mm (0.0472 inches), with a maximum depth of cut of 4 mm. The positive rake geometry and 6-degree rake angle reduce cutting forces and support clean chip formation. This insert is installed and changed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for universal application across multiple material groups, including hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, superalloys, and general steels, as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S per ISO classification. It is appropriate for both high-volume production runs and short-run precision turning where consistent groove geometry and tight tolerances are required. The X4 series insert style fits compatible X4 series toolholders designed for clamp-style insert retention.
Designed for use with X4 series clamp-style grooving toolholders; insert style X4GK with insert size code 250300120. Compatible across ISO material groups H, K, M, N, O, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer. Verify toolholder compatibility with the X4GK insert style and 2503M0 insert size before installation.
Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified for the X4 series toolholder to avoid insert damage or poor seating. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for chips or wear before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's guidelines for insert orientation and clamping sequence.
