The SECO 02899478 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation XOMX120408TR-ME08, designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials including superalloys, titanium, steel, and stainless steel. The insert features a TiAlN and NbN PVD coating applied over a micrograin solid carbide substrate, delivering heat resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting speeds. Key cutting geometry includes a positive rake angle of 20.1 degrees, a T-Land cutting edge style, and a 1/32-inch corner radius (0.0315 inches). With 2 cutting edges and a right-hand orientation, this insert is suited for machinists and CNC operators running high-alloy and difficult-to-machine workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for use in milling applications where superalloys and titanium are the primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for steel and stainless steel. The ME08 chip breaker geometry controls chip flow in these tough materials. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-type clamping method and is compatible with SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12. Typical applications include aerospace component machining, precision part manufacturing, and industrial contract shops running ISO material group S, P, and M workpieces.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12. Designed as a direct replacement for applications specifying ANSI/ISO code XOMX120408TR-ME08 within the XOMX-12 insert series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification; never overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
