The SECO 02897964 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and trade applications. Built from solid carbide with an AlCrN coating, this bit delivers strong wear resistance and thermal stability during prolonged cutting operations. The 140-degree split point reduces walking and cutting forces at entry. With an overall length of 4.6492 inches and a flute length of 2.7974 inches, the bit handles drilling depths up to 2.7974 inches. A straight-cylindrical shank at 0.4728 inches diameter fits standard drill chucks without adapters. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working with hard or abrasive workpiece materials.
The 02897964 is rated for drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other hard materials — corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, and H. The 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports moderate-depth holes in a single pass without pecking in many applications. It operates with right-hand cut spiral flutes and does not require coolant-through tooling, making it compatible with standard drill press, CNC machining center, or manual mill setups where external flood or mist cooling can be applied.
Designed for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, H). Fits any drill chuck or toolholder accepting a 0.4728-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the SECO SD1105A series covering the 0.4000-to-0.5000-inch decimal-inch drill size range.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck or collet before operation to prevent runout. Solid carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side-loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed reduction, or dropping the tool on hard surfaces. Apply external flood or mist coolant where available to extend tool life, as coolant-through is not supported on this bit.
