The SECO 02828068 is a solid carbide milling insert in the ONMU-05 series, designed for high-productivity face and shoulder milling operations. The insert carries the ANSI and ISO designation ONMU050410ANTN-M10 and is manufactured to grade MK2050 with a PVD-applied TiSiN and TiAlN dual coating. The octagon shape provides 16 usable cutting edges on a double-sided configuration, reducing tooling cost per edge. A negative rake angle of 20 degrees with a T-Land cutting edge style and zero relief angle supports stable, controlled cuts in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. Thickness measures 0.1772 inches and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.4724 inches.
This insert is intended for milling cast iron, steel, and hard materials in demanding production environments. The M10 chip breaker geometry is suited for medium-grain material removal where chip control and edge stability are priorities. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible positioning in compatible cutter bodies. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1614 inches, with an effective cutting edge length also at 0.1614 inches. Typical applications include automotive, die, and general machining work where consistent surface finish and long tool life in ferrous and hard materials are required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R217.48-05 and R220.48-05 as specified by the manufacturer. The insert uses screw-type holding and is compatible with toolholders designed for the ONMU-05 insert series with a 0.1969-inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces and torque the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer specification found in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the pocket for chips or debris before seating each new insert to avoid premature edge failure.
