The SECO 02827889 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation SEMX1204AFTN-M15 in manufacturer grade MK2050. Designed for indexable milling toolholders, this square-shaped insert features a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake angle of 4 degrees, and a T-Land cutting edge style. The insert is coated with a TiSiN and TiAlN dual-layer finish applied via PVD process, delivering thermal resistance and edge durability during interrupted and continuous milling operations. With four usable cutting edges and a maximum depth of cut of 0.3425 inches, it is suited for high-productivity face and shoulder milling in production environments. Installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is primarily intended for milling cast iron, steel, and hard materials. The MK2050 grade combined with PVD coating makes it effective across medium-grain workpiece conditions where consistent edge life and surface finish are required. The insert size code 1204 places it in the SEMX-12 series, and it is compatible with cutter bodies in the R217.53-12 and R220.53-12 series. It is well suited to both roughing and semi-finishing passes in ferrous material applications, including gray cast iron and low-to-medium alloy steels common in automotive and general machining shops.
Designed for use with SECO cutter series R217.53-12 and R220.53-12 indexable milling bodies that accept SEMX-12 series inserts with screw-style clamping. Primary workpiece material compatibility is cast iron (ISO code K), with secondary compatibility for steel (ISO code P) and hard materials (ISO code H).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not over-torque the screw, as this can fracture the insert or damage the seat. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw threads for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
