The SECO 02825970 is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert in the VNGA series, designed for precision material removal on hard and difficult-to-machine workpieces. This multi-tipped insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry. The cutting edges are chamfered and honed for consistent edge integrity. At 1.2598 inches in length with a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0157-inch corner radius, this insert is sized for moderate-depth finish and semi-finish turning passes. It is used by machining professionals on CNC lathes and turning centers in production environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, profiling, and back turning operations on hard materials and super-alloys including titanium. The PCBN substrate, grade CBN010, is engineered for interrupted and continuous cuts in hardened steels, cast irons, and superalloy components where carbide tooling reaches its limits. The uncoated bright finish allows direct visual inspection of edge condition. It is compatible with toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods, making it adaptable to a wide range of VNGA-style toolholder blocks already in common shop use.
Designed for use in VNGA-series toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock insert retention. Suitable for CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped for negative-rake VNGA insert geometry. ISO equivalent insert code is VNGA160404S-01020-L1-B.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and verify clamp or lock engagement before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.0200 inches for this insert geometry without confirming application parameters with the toolholder manufacturer.
