The SECO 02823040 is a solid carbide grooving insert engineered for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CP500 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating, which provides heat resistance and extended edge life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 0.062 inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.256 inches, making it well suited for shallow-to-medium groove profiles. The X4GK insert style uses a clamp-style holding method for secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders.
This insert is intended for use in production turning environments where material versatility is required. The CP500 grade with a universal primary workpiece material rating covers steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It belongs to SECO Series X4, a double-ended insert platform. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and general metalworking applications will find this insert applicable across a broad spectrum of turning programs. The positive rake geometry and MC chip breaker design promote efficient chip evacuation in grooving cuts.
Designed for use in Series X4 grooving toolholders that accept X4GK style inserts with a clamp-style holding method. Compatible insert size code is 2503019-A0062RN. Verify toolholder seat dimensions against insert size code 25030190157 before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as this can chip the carbide or distort the seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating a new insert.
