The SECO 02793483 is a TNMG331-MF5 series turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and coated with a multilayer TiAlSiN finish applied via PVD process. Carrying the TH1000 manufacturer grade, this insert is engineered for demanding material removal on superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It features a 60-degree triangular insert shape with a negative rake angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. The MF5 chip breaker geometry manages chip flow in finishing and light roughing applications. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install and index this insert in compatible TNMG-style toolholders across production and job-shop turning operations.
This insert is suited for external turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on superalloys and titanium as well as hard materials. The six available cutting edges maximize tool utilization per insert. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1063 inches, it is best applied in light-to-medium engagement passes where edge integrity and surface finish on difficult workpiece materials are the priority. It is compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock insert-holding methods, giving it broad toolholder adaptability on CNC and manual lathes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for TNMG-style toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock. Industry standard number TNMG331-MF5 and ISO code TNMG160404-MF5 can be used to cross-reference against other toolholder manufacturer fit charts.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard CNC or manual lathe lockout and energy-isolation procedures before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder style in use — do not overtighten clamp screws, as this can damage the insert seat or fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Always wear appropriate PPE when handling carbide inserts, as edges are extremely sharp.
