Product Description

The SECO 02789512 is a solid carbide milling insert in the ONMU-05 series, designed for high-productivity face and shoulder milling across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features an octagonal shape with 16 usable cutting edges, a double-sided configuration, and a neutral hand orientation. It carries a TiAlN and TiN PVD coating applied over a fine-grain carbide substrate in manufacturer grade F40M. The negative rake geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style and 20-degree rake angle supports stable chip formation and extended tool life in demanding milling applications. The maximum depth of cut is 0.1614 inches.

This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and semi-finishing operations. The M10 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-duty cuts in those material groups. The insert is held by screw and is compatible with milling cutter bodies in the R217.48-05 and R220.48-05 series. Compatibility

Compatible with milling cutter body series R217.48-05 and R220.48-05. The insert uses screw holding and fits toolholders designed for ONMU-05 series inserts per ISO standards.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for debris or wear before fitting a new insert.
