The SECO 02787031 is a cermet turning insert in the VNMG-FF2 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI and ISO industry designations VNMG330.5-FF2 and VNMG160402-FF2 and is manufactured to grade TP1030 with a multilayer TiAlSiN PVD coating. The 35-degree diamond insert shape provides a sharp, low-force cutting geometry suited for finish and semi-finish turning. With four usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, the insert delivers consistent performance across multiple passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel (ISO material code P, grades P10 and P15) and secondary use on stainless steel (ISO material code M). The FF2 chip breaker geometry supports back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning operations. A negative rake angle and 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N) make this insert well suited for high-stability toolholder setups in production turning environments where consistent chip control and surface finish are priorities.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock insert holding methods. Suitable for CNC turning applications on steel and stainless steel workpieces within the length range of 0.700 inches to 10.000 inches.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and secure with the appropriate clamp, pin, or lever lock mechanism before resuming cutting operations. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert geometry.
