The SECO 02743683 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the manufacturer part number SEEX1204AFN-M10 and grade designation MM4500. It is a square-shaped, single-sided insert in the SEEX-12 series, measuring 0.5 inches in inscribed circle diameter, 0.5 inches in length, and 0.1874 inches thick. The insert features a CVD-applied dual-layer coating of TiCN and Al2O3, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a 20-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. It provides four usable cutting edges per insert and is secured in the cutter body via a screw-clamping method. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling professionals are the typical installers.
This insert is designed for milling operations where the primary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO material group M), with secondary suitability for steel (P) and superalloys and titanium (S). The M10 chip breaker geometry is optimized for these demanding materials. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and profile milling in production shop and job-shop environments, both in general manufacturing and aerospace or oil-and-gas contexts where stainless steel and high-temperature alloys are common. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.3425 inches with a 0.5-inch effective cutting edge length and a corner radius of 0.0441 inches.

Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, the machine spindle must be fully stopped, locked out, and the tool assembly secured in a vise or tool holder fixture. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to the cutter body screw specification listed in the cutter body documentation — do not overtighten or under-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or damage before seating the new insert, and verify the corner radius orientation matches the programmed toolpath before resuming cutting operations.
