The SECO 02730816 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG 433-MF5 series, coated with a multilayer TiAlSiN finish applied via PVD process. It carries the manufacturer grade TH1000 and is designed for high-performance single-point turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius. With a chamfered and honed cutting edge and the MF5 chip breaker geometry, it is built for controlled chip formation in demanding cutting conditions. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with modern turning centers are the primary installers and users.
This insert is rated for primary use on superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes S and H), with secondary suitability for cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces (ISO codes K, M, and P). The MF5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium finishing cuts in these materials. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing on mill-turn centers, and internal boring on live-tool lathes. The negative rake and neutral hand orientation allow use in a wide range of standard CNMG-compatible toolholders without hand-specific restrictions.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Suitable for toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO CNMG standards. Industry standard number CNMG433-MF5; ISO code CNMG120412-MF5.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and verify the clamping mechanism is fully engaged before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut for the insert geometry, and inspect the cutting edge condition at each index point before continuing production.
