The SECO 02730806 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in demanding machining environments. Carrying the ANSI designation CNMP431 and ISO code CNMP120404, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake and neutral hand orientation. It is PVD-coated with a multilayer TiAlSiN finish under manufacturer grade TH1000, providing high wear resistance suited for finishing operations. The MF1 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip flow during light finishing passes. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius (0.0157 inches), it is positioned for high-precision finishing cuts on difficult workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is engineered primarily for superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S) and hardened materials (ISO material code H), with secondary suitability for cast iron (K), stainless steel and heat-resistant alloys (M), and steel (P). It supports boring, facing, and turning applications, making it a multi-use option on CNC lathes and turning centers where finishing tolerances are critical. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, ensuring compatibility with standard toolholders designed for CNMP-style inserts. Maximum depth of cut is 0.4921 inches.

Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the correct torque wrench for the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm insert orientation and hand before resuming cutting operations.
