The SECO 02712688 is a solid carbide corner chamfer end mill built for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and three right-hand helical flutes set at a 48-degree helix angle. The SIRON-A PVD coating — an AlCrN-based finish — provides excellent heat and wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The centercutting design allows for plunging, ramp-down entry, and helical interpolation. This tool is suited for machinists and tooling specialists running CNC mills on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The 45-degree chamfer geometry at the corner produces a consistent edge break on finished workpiece profiles.
This end mill is designed for both roughing and finishing operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Typical applications include shouldering, slotting, ramp-down entry, helical interpolation, drill milling, and plunging and recessing. The short flute length and straight cylindrical shank with h5 tolerance make it compatible with standard collet and hydraulic toolholding systems. It is well-suited for job shops, aerospace shops, and production facilities where material variety is high and tool changeover must be efficient.
Designed for use on CNC milling machines with standard 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical collet or hydraulic toolholders. Compatible with workpiece materials coded P (Steel), M (Stainless Steel), K (Cast Iron), N (Non-Ferrous Metal), and S (Superalloys and Titanium) per ISO material classification.
Installation and tool changes must be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle at a full stop and machine power locked out. Verify toolholder runout against the stated maximum TIR of 0.0004 inches before running at operating speeds. Use the appropriate collet or hydraulic chuck sized for a 1/4 inch shank diameter. Follow shop-standard speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material and consult the SECO JS553 series cutting data for recommended parameters.
