The SECO 02712684 is a solid carbide corner chamfer end mill designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining environments. Built on the JS553 series platform, it features a 1/8 inch (0.1252 inch decimal) mill diameter, a 1/4 inch length of cut, and a 45-degree chamfer angle with a 0.0016 inch chamfer width. The 48-degree high-helix geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality. The SIRON-A PVD coating — an AlCrN-based treatment — provides thermal resistance and wear protection suited for dry or near-dry cutting conditions. This is a single-end, right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool with centercutting capability, making it suitable for both entry cuts and lateral passes.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. Its short length type and straight-cylindrical shank make it a fit for standard collet toolholding systems on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Documented applications include shouldering, slotting, ramp-down, helical interpolation, drill milling, and plunging and recessing operations. The micrograin carbide substrate supports the high cutting speeds and feeds these operations demand.
Designed for use in standard 1/8 inch collet or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Suitable for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium (ISO groups P, M, K, N, S). Part of the SECO JS553 series. Catalog number 5530125Z3.0-SIRON-A.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or lockout state before changing tooling. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the collet or holder before tightening to manufacturer torque specifications for the toolholder in use. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0004 inch.
