The SECO 02711344 is a solid micrograin carbide corner chamfer end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding shop environments. It carries a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, four flutes, and a 48-degree helix angle that promotes aggressive chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. The tool is finished with a SIRON-A AlCrN-based PVD coating, which improves heat resistance and extends tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The 45-degree chamfer geometry produces a controlled edge break with a 0.005 inch chamfer width. Centercutting capability allows plunging entries. This end mill is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals working on CNC machining centers.
This end mill is suited for both roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Typical operations include shouldering, slotting, ramp-down milling, helical interpolation, drill milling, and plunging and recessing. The short flute length of 3/4 inch keeps the tool rigid, making it appropriate for close-tolerance work in production or toolroom settings on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers accepting straight cylindrical shank toolholders with a 3/8 inch bore. Suitable for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces per the manufacturer material codes P, M, K, N, and S. This tool is part of the SECO JS554 series. Manufacturers catalog number 5540375Z4.0-SIRON-A.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before loading or changing tooling. Mount the shank in a clean, properly sized collet or toolholder to maintain TIR within the rated 0.0004 inch maximum. Verify all tool offsets and runout before commencing a cut, and follow the machine manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for the specific workpiece material.
